  72. This package contains QwkSlave (TM) by Stevenson Technical Services,
  73. Inc. (STSI).  This document contains only a brief description of the
  74. package and its features, along with instructions for its installation.
  75. Quite detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in
  76. archived form, and is more easily read after installation.

  78. QwkSlave is a program designed to import QWK mail packets, storing each
  79. message as a database record.  Add, edit, delete, and print messages.
  80. Search the entire database for key words or phrases.  Sort the database
  81. on any one of ten different fields.  Cross referencing makes finding an
  82. original message and its response as easy as a mouse-click!  Make those
  83. messages work for you! QwkSlave is ideal as a technical support
  84. reference tool.  Network support is included.  Easy push-button
  85. interface with mouse support. (286 or higher)

  87. QwkSlave is a shareware program. You may use it for up to 2 weeks,
  88. without charge (see QWKSLAVE.DOC for more details).  If you like the
  89. program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you
  90. are required to pay for the program (see REGISTER.DOC for more details).

  122. ===== Installation =====================================
  123.  
  124. The installation procedure for QwkSlave is quite simple.  The package
  125. includes a program, "INSTALL.EXE", which automates the entire process.
  126. You will need about 1 megabyte of available disk space (initially) on
  127. the hard drive on which you plan to install QwkSlave.
  128.  
  129. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  130. QwkSlave.
  131.  
  132.  
  133. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  134.  
  135. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  136.  
  137. 1. Place QwkSlave distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the appropriate
  138.    diskette drive.
  139.  
  140. 2. Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  141.    For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A:, type
  142.    the MS-DOS command, "a:install".
  143.  
  144. 3. Follow the instructions presented by the installation program. You
  145.    will have a chance to approve installation before any changes are
  146.    actually made to the contents of your hard drive. The program will
  147.    ask you for a destination directory, and will copy the QwkSlave
  148.    files to that directory.  If you received QwkSlave on two
  149.    diskettes, you will need to insert Disk 2 in the diskette drive
  150.    when asked to do so.  If you so direct it, the installation
  151.    program will install executable programs and documentation in
  152.    other directories of your choice.

  155. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  156.  
  157. If you downloaded QwkSlave from a BBS (or received it in the form of
  158. archive files from some other source), you will need to perform the
  159. following steps.
  160.  
  161. 1. Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  162.    directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this varies,
  163.    depending on the form in which you received the package. In all
  164.    likelihood, the fact that you are reading this text means that you
  165.    already have the necessary tools and knowledge to perform this step.
  166.    If not, you should be able to obtain directions for this from the
  167.    same source from which you received the package.
  168.  
  169. 2. Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program which you have extracted.  For
  170.    example, if the temporary directory into which you have extracted the
  171.    program files is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the MS-DOS
  172.    command, "c:\tempdir\install".
